I've been following Carla Soares' work at @outracozinha for a while. In addition to sharing recipes with a very Brazilian touch, she proposes interesting reflections on respecting one's own rhythm and looking for the hidden, simple things in our daily lives that can make us happier. That's why I was super excited when she invited me to collaborate with her in creating an illustration as a gift for her patrons!
Translation: "Food is just an excuse to talk about what keeps us alive", by Carla Soares. The lettering was created by hand.The font used in the @ is Brandon Grotesque.
Carla wanted something that went beyond the obvious when it comes to food. So we explored a few ideas involving recipes she shares on her blog and a character interacting with them in fun, unusual ways:
We then decided to focus on the fermented jabuticaba juice recipe that is a hit on Carla's blog. Developing those initial ideas a bit further and adjusting the composition, we arrived at the following concepts:
Finally, we decided to merge them and created the final version, in which two characters are having fun in the juice pot, playing with the jabuticaba, showing that food is more than nourishment: it's time, it's life, it's community, it's caring for ourselves and others.

I also adapted the hand lettering and the illustration into two stickers that were sent to Carla's patrons as well:
